Marketplace Ads for Festive Growth: PPC Playbook for 2026
Sponsored Products, Brands, Display and DSP — a tight festive PPC playbook for Amazon and Flipkart in 2026.
Ads decide the festive winner
In Indian marketplace ads, the festive quarter is where ROAS swings most. A brand running tight PPC during October–December can deliver 3–4× more profitable GMV than the same brand running campaigns on auto-pilot.
Here's the playbook our team runs for 80+ brands across Amazon & Flipkart.
Step 1: Campaign architecture
Three-layer architecture beats single-campaign setups:
Layer 1 — Manual exact-match (40% budget): Top 10 keywords from search-term reports. Bid 1.3× the platform's suggested bid. These are your money keywords.
Layer 2 — Manual phrase + broad (40% budget): Discover new keyword variations. Mine them weekly.
Layer 3 — Auto-targeting (20% budget): Pure discovery. Surface new keywords and ASINs to target.
Step 2: Hero SKU vs long-tail SKU budgets
Don't spread budget evenly. The 80/20 rule applies:
- Hero SKUs (top 5) get 65% of total ad budget
- Growth SKUs (next 10) get 25%
- Long-tail gets 10% (auto only)
Hero SKUs already have proof of demand. Pour gasoline on the fire, not on wet wood.
Step 3: Bid management by funnel stage
Different campaigns serve different funnel stages:
- Brand defense — bid 1.5× to dominate your own brand searches; competitors will try to poach
- Category capture — bid 1.2× on broad category keywords; high-volume, lower-converting
- Competitor conquest — bid 1.4× on ASIN-targeted ads of close competitors
Step 4: Sponsored Brands & Display
Sponsored Products is the bread; Sponsored Brands and Display are the butter.
- Sponsored Brands — runs on top of search; 15–25% of ad GMV at 30% lower ACoS
- Sponsored Display — retarget Buy Box visitors who didn't convert; recovers 5–10% of "lost" sales
- DSP (Amazon DSP) — for brands spending ₹5L+/month; off-Amazon retargeting
Step 5: Festive-specific tactics
- 48-hour pre-event push — increase bids 30% on hero SKUs to lift relevance score before the sale starts
- Event-day bid cap removal — Amazon's auto-bid can crush ACoS; remove caps but monitor hourly
- Day-after harvest — search terms that converted during the event are gold; promote them to manual exact-match
Step 6: Reporting that matters
Most brands look at total ACoS. Wrong metric. Look at:
- TACoS (Total Advertising Cost of Sales) = ad spend / total sales (ads + organic)
- Cost per New Customer — new buyers acquired ÷ ad spend on broad campaigns
- ROAS by SKU per week — never trust portfolio-level numbers
Common festive PPC mistakes
- Cutting ad budget mid-event because ACoS spiked (it's a 24-hour effect — fix it next day, don't stop)
- Not bidding on your own brand (competitors will)
- Running auto on Amazon Brand Stores — never works
- Ignoring negative keywords (they save 15–20% of waste)
What good looks like
A well-run festive PPC:
- Blended ROAS > 4.0×
- TACoS between 8–12%
- 30–40% of ad GMV from Sponsored Brands + Display
- New-to-brand customer rate > 40%
